2006 Ford Edge

What is it? Ford taps into the growing crossover segment with its second entry, the Edge. Joining the car-based Freestyle, the Edge plays to the category hallmarks of refined ride, interior versatility, and fuel economy, offering a more civilized alternative to more traditional sport/utility vehicles. Smaller than the three-row Freestyle, the five-place Edge can flip and fold its rear seats to open up 63 cubic-feet of cargo space. The Edge will offer a new 3.5-liter V-6 and six-speed automatic transmission.

What is new or notable? As the market begins to shy away from traditional SUVs, Ford expands its portfolio with a new 'crossover utility vehicle.'
