Q. What are the basic tools for make-up? Answer: Foundation, Powder, Cover stick, Blusher, Eye-shadow, Eyeliner, Mascara, Lip pencil, Lip color, Lip-gloss, Eyebrow pencil, Eyebrow gel, Cosmetic sponge, Brushes. Q. How do I apply the make-up base? Answer: Ideally, your foundation should be a shade darker than your skin-tone. When you check out a new foundation, do so in daylight. You could buy either a liquid foundation or a foundation cake. Always apply foundation sparingly to avoid a caked look. Dot foundation all over your face and neck and blend it with a dampened cosmetic sponge. Q. How do I cover up blemishes? Answer: You can use a cover stick to cover blemishes on your skin and dark circles under your eyes. Choose a shade that is lighter than your foundation. Apply it to the area to be covered up with your fingers and blend it into the skin with a clean brush. Q. Why should I use a powder? Answer: Powder helps the foundation to set and provides a grease-free base for make-up. Besides, pressed powder is easy to carry around and can be used any time to dab the extra shine off your skin. Q. How should I apply powder? Answer: You can use a small powder-puff or a brush to apply powder. It's best to powder the forehead first followed by the temples, cheeks, chin and finally the nose. Q. Why is a blusher used? Answer: A blusher not only adds color to your face, it helps to alter the way the shape of your face looks. It also helps to highlight the more flattering features while playing-down the not-so-flattering ones. Q. How do I use a blusher? Answer: There are three forms of blushers: gel, cream and powder. Gels or creams are best used before powdering. These have to be applied on the area to be shaded and blended carefully with the fingertips. Powder blushers can be applied and blended with a thick brush. Mix two tablespoons of papaya pulp with 10 drops of lemon juice and apply evenly all over face and neck. Wash off with water after 20 minutes. Avoid coloring in straight lines and blend the blusher and highlighter properly. Q. How to apply eye shadow? Answer: Eye shadows come in pressed and loose powders, creams and in pencils. Pressed powders are easy to apply and come in a wide range of shades. However, those with dry skins can opt for cream eye shadows. These can be applied with a sponge applicator. The loose powder variety is tricky to apply. However, a drop of water on the applicator makes the powder last longer. Q. How should I use eyeliners? Answer: Eyeliners come as pencils, liquid, cake or pens. The pencils are easy to use and can be easily blended with an eye-shadow brush to give a dreamy, yet non-made-up look. You'll need a little practice to apply liquid eyeliner neatly. The line should be drawn on the eye-lid, very close to the lashes. Draw a thick or a thin line depending on what looks best on you. Q. How should I use mascara? Answer: When properly used mascara can do wonders to the way your eyes look. It is best to use a transparent mascara first, and then follow that with a black or a brown one. Q. How do I use lip colors? Answer: First define your lips with a lip-liner that is a shade darker than your lipstick. Then fill in the lip color preferably with a brush (to give it an even finish). Dab off excess color with a wet tissue. Then lightly reapply the color. Finish off with a gloss. |
